Irene Nakamoto
Irene Nakamoto grew up in Kalihi and graduated from Farrington High School, University of Hawaii College of Education, and Ohio University. She was an elementary teacher and principal in Hawaii.
After retirement, Irene received her Tokudo ordination in 2003 in Kyoto, Japan. She is a past president of the Hawaii Federation of Buddhist Women’s Association and serves as the Education Committee co-chair. She teaches ikebana classes at 15 Craigside (her current residence).
Irene is married to Rev. David Nakamoto, who served as minister at Kailua Hongwanji (now WBT) from 2010-2017. She keeps active with exercise classes, mahjong, and her newly acquired interest in Korean dramas.
