Windward Buddhist Temple is a branch of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii serving Windward Oahu.

Join us for our weekly Dharma Service, every Sunday at 9 am. On the second Sunday of each month, we have family activities focused on providing fun for the whole family.

Participating in temple programs offers shared opportunities that promote learning and selfless giving. Everyone is welcome to participate in the temple programs.

Development of temple activities is an ongoing pursuit of the sangha (Buddhist community) and moves with the interest and support of its members and the communities it serves.

Mahalo for joining us at the final Bon Dance of the season.

The annual obon season is a special time for families. Together we honor our parents and ancestors through the service and have fun together at the bon dance.

Mahalo for joining us at the final Bon Dance of the season on Saturday, October 5, 2019, held in collaboration with Windward Mall in Kaneohe.

There was freshly made andagi, takuan, boiled peanuts, and more. The Bon Dance started at 2 pm. Click below to view our photo album of the day’s events.

Established in 1968

Kailua Hongwanji Mission was established in 1968 at its present location in Kailua, Hawaii. In 2012, through the support and vision of its membership, the original temple was demolished and rebuilt. The new temple was completed and dedicated on February 22, 2014, which coincided with major donor Dorthy Ono's 10th Memorial Anniversary.

Reflecting its broader role on the Windward side of Oahu, Kailua Hongwanji Mission became the Windward Buddhist Temple on January 1, 2019.

To enrich people’s lives through Buddhist Teachings that promote awareness and growth which lead to lives of gratitude, harmony, and peace.
