REVEREND Joshin Kamuro
Rev. Joshin Kamuro is from a temple family in Aso, Kumamoto in southern Japan.
After graduating from Ryukoku University in Kyoto with a Bachelor’s Degree in Shin Buddhist Studies, he worked at the EKŌ-House of Japanese Culture, a division of BUKKYŌ DENDŌ KYŌKAI (Society for the Promotion of Buddhism) in Düsseldorf, Germany from 2001 to 2006. He returned to Japan in 2007 to further his study at Ryukoku University and completed a Doctoral Program in Shin Buddhist Studies in 2014.
When he came to Hawaii in October 2015, his first assignment was at the Hawaii Betsuin on Pali Hwy. in Honolulu, and then at Hilo Betsuin on the island of Hawaii. He has been serving as the resident minister at Mililani Hongwanji since August 2024.
Rev. Kamuro and his wife, Minako, are blessed with two children: Yuma (18), who will enter the University of California, Los Angeles this September, and Nanami (2 ½), who will begin attending Aiea Hongwanji Preschool thisAugust.
