A member of Lahaina Hongwanji Mission and their Kyodan board, Mr. Thompson also serves on the Hawaii Kyodan board, Pacific Buddhist Academy Board of Trustees, and the Honpa Hongwanji board.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, Kailua Hongwanji Mission is a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist church and a branch of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii serving Windward Oahu.
