Sunday Dharma Service
In our final Sunday service for the summer, Reverend David Nakamoto gave a Dharma Talk on the subject of mindfulness.
There will be no Sunday services during the month of August. The next Sunday service will be our First Sunday Family Service on September 4, 2016.
Sunday Dharma Service
Today's speaker was Joy Nishida, who shared her thoughts on Obon and gratitude through a photo slideshow of bon dances at Kailua Hongwanji and Kona Hongwanji, the latter held in the wake of Tropical Storm Darby on July 23.
Ikebana on Display
Ikebana arrangements were on display during the Kailua Hongwanji Bon Dance on July 16. Classes are held monthly at the temple.

First Steps in Understanding Shin Buddhism
What is the Shin Buddhist way of living? Learn the terminology, concepts, rituals, and services of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism to understand how to find peace and happiness.
The goal of this 7-session course is to help newcomers to Jodo Shinshu (Shin) Buddhism gain a basic understanding of the terminology, concepts, and rituals in an informal, question & answer setting.

Bon Dance 2016
The Kailua Hongwanji Bon Dance was held on Saturday, July 16, 2016. The food booth opened at 6 pm, while music and dancing began at 7.
The Food
Our food booth featured our BBQ plates with two BBQ sticks, grilled hot dog, homemade macaroni salad and takuan, and rice. Other favorites included chili plates, chili dog, and our famous andagi.
Junior YBA Shave Ice Booth
The Junior YBA of Honolulu operated the shave ice booth, featuring multiple flavors and a condensed milk drizzle, perfect for a warm evening.
Bon Dance Practice
Hatsubon Service
Our Hatsubon Service was held on Sunday, July 10 at the temple. The Hatsubon commemorates the first obon since the passing of a loved one.
Constructing the Yagura
Friends and members assembled the yagura in preparation for Kailua Hongwanji's Bon Dance on Saturday, July 16 at 7 pm.
