Minister Appreciation Dharma Service for Sunday, October 11, 2026 with a Dharma Talk by Prudence Kusano. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Dennis Tashiro, temple president and Certified Minister’s Lay Assistant. Prudence shared the story, "If You Plant a Seed" by Kadir Nelson.

As part of our Minister Appreciation Service, all aspects of today's service were handled by temple members. We asked Rev. Shingo Furusawa to be here today as our guest so that we can express our appreciation for his being our Liaison Minister and his assistance with our temple's ministerial needs.

Remembrance Dharma Service for Sunday, September 27, 2026 with a Dharma Talk by Raymond Takiue of Mo'ili'ili Hongwanji. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Raymond, a Certified Ministers Lay Assistant with Tokudo. Raymond shared his recent visit to the Buddhist Church of San Francisco and his adventures entrusting himself to a self-driving Waymo to navigate the streets of the city.

The monthly Remembrance Service is a time to honor family, friends, and even pets who passed away during the month of August or September, regardless of the year. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist church service was recorded at Windward Buddhist Temple, a Shin Buddhist Temple in Kailua, Hawaii.

Join us at the 6th Annual Windward Mall Bon Dance on Saturday, October 3, 2026. We won't have a Sunday Dharma Service on Sunday, October 4 to give us time to rest and recover after the Bon Dance!

Autumn Ohigan & Peace Day Service for Sunday, September 20, 2026 with a Dharma Talk by Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii Bishop Toshiyuki Umitani. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Bishop Umitani.

Autumn Ohigan is one of six major special services observed by the Hongwanji. The Pure Land is regarded as being in the west. Twice a year, on the Autumn and the Spring equinox, the length of day and night are equal, and the sun sets due west.

Join us at the 6th Annual Windward Mall Bon Dance at Windward Mall in Kaneohe, Hawaii on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Windward Buddhist Temple will be there with our andagi, takuan, and other Bon Dance favorites.

Following the service, members went on a walk around Kailua to distribute Peace Day cranes.

Family Dharma Service for Sunday, September 13, 2026 with a Dharma Talk by Joy Nishida. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii Bishop Toshiyuki Umitani. Joy and the four Jr. Young Buddhists Association (YBA) members from WBT who recently attended their annual convention on the Big Island shared their experiences.

The theme of the State Convention was "Sangha Means Family," which was inspired by the movie, "Lilo and Stich," and Joy shares Dharma lessons gleaned from the movie.

Intergenerational activity

Our intergenerational activity for September was folding and making cranes for the International Day of Peace and Peace Day in Hawaii, celebrated on September 21. Two types of cranes were made; origami-style, as well as coloring and cutting from a template.

Remembrance Dharma Service for Sunday, July 26, 2026 with a Dharma Talk by Rev. Shingo Furusawa, Liaison Minister of Windward Buddhist Temple. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Rev. Furusawa. Rev. Shingo's Dharma Message was titled, "Overcoming our Make*").

* "Make" means "death" in the Hawaiian language.
