Remembrance Dharma Service for Sunday, April 26, 2026 with a Dharma Talk by Rev. Charlene Kihara. Ichigo Ichie — “one time, one meeting" — is a Japanese expression that reminds us that each encounter is unique and unrepeatable. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Rev. Kihara.

Remembrance Dharma Service for Sunday, December 28, 2025 with a Dharma Talk by Rev. Charlene Kihara of Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Rev. Kihara. Rev. Kihara shares a year-ending look back at moments of change (and lessons in impermanence) through the year 2025, both at Honpa Hongwanji and personally.

And as we leave the Year of the Snake and enter the Year of the Horse, Rev. Kihara shares the "Legend of the Great Race," which explains how the Zodiac animals were chosen.

After the service, we went outside and rang the temple bell, or kansho, 108 times to “ring out” the year 2025 in the Japanese tradition of Joya no Kane.

Dharma Service for Sunday, November 9, 2025 with a Dharma Talk by Neil Yamamoto. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Rev. Charlene Kihara of Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin. Continuing his "Foodie-Dharma" series, Neil's Dharma Talk was titled, "To Be Grateful & Thankful." We also recognized our veterans in our sangha, as Veterans Day will be on November 11.

Obon & Hatsubon Service

Our annual Obon & Hastubon Service held on Sunday, July 6, 2025 with a Dharma Talk by guest speaker Rev. Charlene Kihara of Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin. Obon is a time when Buddhists remember those who have left this world before us, with gratitude for enabling us to exist and to encounter the dharma. This was also our Hatsubon Service, for families of those who passed away since the last Obon.

The service was officiated by Rev. Sol Kalu at Windward Buddhist Temple in Kailua, Hawaii.
