On Saturday, May 10, 2025, we held our belated Earth Day rubbish pick-up on Kuulei Road, which is the road our temple is located on in Kailua. Two teams went up and down both sides of the road picking up a variety of discarded bottles, cans, food wrappers, cigarette butts, plastic pieces, and even floor mats for a car.

Kailua Service Care Event 2025
On the last Tuesday of the month, the Kailua Houseless Service Care Event takes place at the Daybreak Church and Kailua YMCA. WBT prepared and served the hot lunch and snack bags for the April event.
The monthly event also offers haircuts, a warm shower with a mobile shower van, hygiene items, signing up for food assistance programs, and assistance with legal affairs. Mahalo to all who make this event possible every month!
Remembrance Day Service

Remembrance Dharma Service for Sunday, April 27, 2025 with a Dharma Talk by Rev. Sol Kalu. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Rev. Kalu. Rev. Kalu discusses the three mirrors of Buddhism, emphasizing the importance of mindfulness and the understanding of one's own faults compared to the faults of others.
The monthly Remembrance Service is a time to honor family, friends, and even pets who passed away during the month of April, regardless of the year. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist church service was recorded at Windward Buddhist Temple, a Shin Buddhist Temple in Kailua, Hawaii.

This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by WBT resident minister, Rev. Sol Kalu. Doris reflects on her Nembutsu journey through her family history and Okinawan heritage.
Established at the 1978 World Buddhist Women’s Convention, Eshinni Day honors the wife of Shinran Shonin. In 1986, the BWA celebrated and honored Kakushinni, Shinran and Eshinni's daughter.

Buddha Day / Hanamatsuri Dharma Service for Sunday, April 13, 2025 with a Dharma Talk by Rev. Sol Kalu. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by WBT resident minister, Rev. Sol Kalu. In his Dharma Talk, Rev. Kalu discusses the difference between Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha, and Amida Buddha, the main Buddha of reverence in the Jodo Shinshu tradition.
Buddha Day, also known as Hanamatsuri or "flower festival" commemorates the birth of Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini Garden.
