Dana Day & Pet Memorial Service

Rev. David Fujimoto

Dana Day & Pet Memorial Dharma Service for Sunday, February 8, 2026 with a Dharma Talk by Rev. David Fujimoto of Mo'ili'ili Hongwanji. This Jodo Shinshu Buddhist service was officiated by Rev. Fujimoto.

Dana, or selfless giving, is one of the six paramitas. Dana Day is an annual, early-February observance in Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, established in 1965, to promote dāna.

Today was also our annual Pet Memorial Remembrance Service. Pets provide us with selfless giving with their unconditional love and companionship. A loss of a family pet is often our first encounter with mortality as children.

And, finally, this also happens to be the most important day of the year for professional football fans, also known as Super Bowl Sunday. Rev. Fujimoto's Dharma talk ties all three of these notable occasions together in the context of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism.
